HOSPITALIZATION:
The major part of the patients stay in the hospital is approximately from 5 to 8 days after an open procedure and from 2 to 5 days after a laparoscopic produce. You will be released when:
1. You can ingest enough liquids and nutrients orally to prevent dehydration.
2. You don't have a fever
3. You have an adequate control of pain with medication.
According to the procedure you can place one or two small tubes around the gastric bag and the derivation of the stomach to drain the corporal liquids after the surgery.
These are generally removed in a course of 3 to 10 days. To help prevent the formation of blood clots, they will provide you with anti embolic socks or any other compression devices, and your surgeon will want you to stand up and walk as soon as possible, normally within the first 24 hours of the post-op.
Depending on your medical condition there is a possibility that you might be sent to the intensive care unit to closely supervise your cardiac and pulmonary activity.
